BC Ferries - to & from Vancouver Island

  • There are different ferry route from Vancouver to Vancouver Island. The Horseshoe Bay ferry goes from Horseshoe Bay Vancouver to Departure Bay Nanaimo Daily. The Tswassen ferry goes to Szwarts Bay Victoria or Duke Point Nanaimo Daily. Schedules and prices can be found on the BC ferry website.

    From Port Alberni

    Driving

  • There is a dirt road from Port Alberni to the east side of Bamfield. It is aprox 76 km long and can take between 1.5 to 2 hrs. The road is maintained by the logging company and road conditions vary weekly. There are sign posts along the way, but if you follow the power poles they will lead you to Bamfield.

    Bus

  • The West Coast Trail express leaves daily during the peak season. Check the schedule and fairs for further details.

    Lady Rose

  • Taking the Lady Rose from Port Alberi to Bamfield is a beautiful and relaxing way to get there. The boat leaves Port Alberni at 8 am, so most people spend the night before in Port Alberni. The boat leaves Bamfield at 13:00.

    From Victoria

    Driving

  • If you are driving from Victoria there are two different routs that you can take; the highway to Port Alberni or the Dirt road from Youbou via Cowichan Lake.

    Port Alberni

  • The highway from Victoria to Port Alberni takes aprox 3 hrs. Once you reach Port Alberni you can either drive in on the logging road or take the Lady Rose.

    Cowichan Lake

  • The drive from Victoria to Youbou is on the paved roads and takes aprox 2 hrs. Drive first to Duncan and then take the dirt road from Youbou to Bamfield can take between 3 to 4 hours, depending on the road condition.

    Bus
